Easy drop in. I didn't have any bed lining so it was a simple 3 13mm bolt removal. Drops in no problem and looks just like oem. Anyone who needs to watch a video just look up 99-07 silverado tailgate latch installation. If you don't have any liner on your tailgate like me it'll take 5 mins. All you should need is a ratchet and a 13mm socket and a small flathead and some needle nose pliers. The flat head it to help get the top two tabs into place and the plastic latches off of the metal rods. Pliers may or may not be needed but definitely take just in case. Once you get to the bezel it's a little tricky and I found that keeping the tailgate just before latching and putting in the bottom two tabs first and working it over the handle and using the flat head and a firm push was the best way to install it. The latch itself is easy, just when you get it in put in the bottom bolt to keep it in and align the other two holes and tighten them all down then insert the metal rods and it takes some force but put the plastic latches onto the metal rods. Should only take 5-10 mins. Overall, great product and I do recommend.

These covers are extremely cheap as far as cost and seriously lack integrity. You have to be extremely careful installing these because there very easy to snap the ear tabs off.

my 2004 gmc 3500 full box crew cab needed a major tune up including a door handle tail gate latch, lights…. i bought this unit and installed it in a truck that the two wires in the tail gate had been bent and pulled on to open for years. can not believe i was so stupid to wait so long to fix this problem! it was easy to install and opens my old tail gate with a good tug. i highly recommend this latch and guard. they are heavy duty.
