My feathered friends are enjoying it. I dont see how you could use seed with it, holes are too big. I am using suet balls

Tried two types of sunflower bird seed, and both fell straight through. Birds were not even attracted to the sphere with the 4 inches of seed that remained. In the process of returning.

I grew up in Maine and went to the university in Orono, where this company is from, so I was drawn to this feeder for that reason! I am also an avid bird feeder. The feeder is beautiful. I've never seen one quite like it. The top of it is like a piece of ceramics! The cage part holds a great deal of seeds. It's best suited for big sunflower seeds, which is what we mostly feed birds anyway. The birds in my yard took to it quickly, and as advertised, this mostly attracted small birds---lots and lots of chickadees, especially! It's nice you don't have to fill the feeder very often, as it's so large.Our only issue with it has been wind. We've only filled it with large seeds, but even so, on a windy day, the seeds all blow out. I do have to say we've had quite a windy March here, and most months it would probably be fine. But twice in the wind we've lost all the seeds we just put in when they were blown all over the yard. The birds still got them, I'm sure, but we didn't have the fun of watching them! If you live in an extra windy area, you might want to keep that in mind, but even with that flaw, we really do like this birdfeeder. It's unique and very cool!

This feeder is unusable because the wires are too far apart. Promotional materials claim that it is designed to hold black oil sunflower seeds, but as the seeds were poured in they went straight through the wires and onto the floor. Made a big mess in my garage and now the mice will have a feast. I am returning it.

The media could not be loaded.  This is a really pretty feeder that looks high quality and has a cool design. It's easy to fill and easy to hang. It does not seem lightweight and when it's full of seeds it's actually rather heavy. It's not at all squirrel proof. The biggest problem with it is that the wire holes are big enough to allow the black oil sunflower seeds to essentially just fall out both when you're filling it and while the birds are eating it. I filled it up in the morning and after just about 3 hours of heavy bird use at least 1/3 of the seeds are gone and I don't think that's because they're all ending up in the birds bellies. The area underneath the feeder is now full of seeds which is making the squirrels and sparrows very happy but is not necessarily the point of the feeder. It's also difficult to fill without dumping a whole bunch of seeds all over the place as you can see in my picture. Those are the seeds that fell out right through the feeder as I was filling it this morning. I'm going to try filling this with peanut hearts and see if that will solve the problem. I'm thinking the peanuts are going to be big enough to stay in the feeder and I'm hoping that the titmice will still be able to get to them. It's really a gorgeous feeder and I really want to make it work.

Blue jays, cardinals and other larger birds will tend to get most of the food when left on a tray or other open feeder. The wire mesh on this feeder is tight enough that the larger birds' beaks can't get between the wires, so the smaller birds can finally get to the food without being run off by the bigger bullies. The feeder is easy to mount. It is solidly made, with wires strong enough to hold up over time. It is also quite attractive, which makes it a nice feeder to hang near a window where you can watch the action. The top opening is large enough to permit easy filling and the wires close enough to hold in sunflower seeds. Smaller seeds don't work as well because they fall through the spaces, so go with larger seeds. They also have the benefit of higher oil content to provide the extra calories needed in colder weather.

Cool seed feeder. I only put sunflower seeds in this and they stay in. We even had a big wind storm and most of the seeds stayed in the coils. The top is thicker, glazed ceramic. It slides off and in easily and stays put when set on top of feeder. The shape is unusual and fun to see in your yard. I make sure to fill outside so any seeds that fall out don’t make a mess. This only holds bigger seeds. Not millet or cracked corn.

It's extremely pretty and well made. Very attractive. The wire is too big for most seeds and seed blends. Maybe some chunks...?
