This soap was of great quality. It's soft, malleable, and the smell is what I expected (earthy and nutty smells of Shea Butter is what I mostly picked up on. It's not going to smell like peaches but it also doesn't smell like burning tires). Being that it's made of raw materials, it wasn't unexpected to to see a few tiny bits of hard debris -- there was nothing major. Note that the soap didn't come in the packaging with the label, as pictured, but was wrapped in a Saran Wrap-type plastic that itself was wrapped in a thicker plastic with an Amazon barcode on it. Not a big deal but it'd be helpful to verify ingredients and origins of what customers receive.So far, I've turned about 2 ounces of it into a 32 oz liquid shampoo. Even in its raw form the lather is creamy and the cleansing power is wonderful. I bought it for use with both hair and skin and am already seeing a major difference -- the scalp is cleaner, hair is softer, and some of the spots and pimples on my face cleared up pretty quickly.For those who find ABS too drying or too harsh for sensitive skin, I recommend that you go the liquid shampoo/body wash/face soap route with one of many simple online recipes. It's very simple to make, you don't need much of it per wash, those recipes automatically turn it into a more moisturizing soap with whatever natural fragrance you prefer (I'm using lavender and it works really well). You'd be using the soap in a slightly less concentrated form that's still effective. For me, it's also significantly less expensive per ounce (and more versatile) than the castille soaps I'd been using because you don't need a whole lot of it to make a bottle or to do a cleansing afterward.For those who complain about mold, this is more than likely because you are getting a huge chunk (or the entire thing) wet and then leaving it in conditions under which mold can grow. Keep in mind that you're dealing with all-natural, raw ingredients and that's what can happen to organic materials without some level of care in how you store them. It will not preserve itself like processed products with synthetic ingredients and so should not be expected to do so.Unless there is an existing problem when you first open the package (in which you should promptly log into your account and return the item), it is easy to prevent problems with minimum effort. To avoid mold, do ONE of the following: 1. cut off only what you think is a reasonable amount that you'll actually use within a week and store the rest in a dry environment and/or container until it's needed. 2. refrigerate the bar (its ingredients have a low melting point and can be warmed up with your body heat from your hands very quickly when you need it), 3. don't leave the bar sopping wet if it's in a room that doesn't have proper air circulation -- gently pat the bar dry with a cloth or paper towel after each use., or 4. leave the soap in a room that has proper air circulation (exhaust fan, dehumidifier, etc.).

It works well, very exfoliating and holistic, it doesn't leave a film on your skin, I order it every month. Keeps your skin moisturized for sure. It does come in a variety every time I get it though. I always order a pound, it usually comes in a brick, but I think my last order came in 2 bricks so I'm not sure what happened. Some times it comes with a finger sized hole in it but apparently that's a thing, it does melt in the water so try to leave it as dry as possible. It comes with sharp edges so be careful putting it directly on your skin, it will scratch you but I don't find that deterring. I still use it normally lol.Enjoy

lasts a long time

I’ve been using African black soap for a while, and this one-pound block is a fantastic value! It’s so easy to slice into smaller bars, so it lasts quite a while. The soap lathers really well—just a little bit goes a long way, and it leaves my skin feeling clean and clear without drying it out. It does melt faster than harder soaps, so I keep it on a soap dish to help it dry between uses.A couple of things to note: because it's a softer soap, it sometimes has small hard pieces that can feel scratchy, but knowing how this soap is made makes me appreciate these natural "imperfections." It's a true traditional product that feels connected to its roots. I’ll definitely be buying this again!

I’m completely sold. Great lather. Hydration and exploitation. Do NOT use directly on your skin. It can scratch. Use a net scrub or luffa. I love the smell.

This is exactly what I was looking for, great quality and quantity. I use black soap on my face, body and hair. Black soap is an excellent shampoo that leaves my hair clean and not dry. For my face, it's great for acne and dark spots. A little of this goes a long way and the soap produces plenty of suds and foam. And guess what?!?!? This soap works great in my foam soap dispensers.This is raw, natural black soap so there is bound to be some rocks or twigs in it. Its best to liquidfy the soap and strain. I always liquefy my black soap, it's very easy. I put some chunks of black soap in a container, about 3/4 full then fill the container with distilled water. I let this sit overnight until the soap is completely dissolved. I then use a strainer to pour the liquid soap through to get rid of tiny twigs and pebbles. I split the liquid soap into two 8 oz containers and fill with distilled water.You can use the soap as-is or add essential oils to it. For shampoo I like to add tea tree oil, rosemary and olive oil. I usually use this plain for face and body.

While it’s good it definitely smells burnt and the rough pieces in it are definitely very sharp. Kinda burns my face also. I would not purchase this again

I read about all the miraculous things black soap could do for your face and through its use they seem to be true. Helped with blemishes and hoping will help with dark spots. Great product so far!
