Excellent Dry Rot Repair on Remaining Wood

I used this material to repair dry rotted wood around the exterior refrigerator opening of my travel trailer. The product worked exceptionally well. Thanks to the RV manufacturing crew in Elkhart, Indiana who failed to use a putty or caulk to seal the exterior plastic weather frame around my refrigerator, water continually leaked in around the frame and rotted the wooden lower half of the exterior box of my refrigerator. Discovered years later. What a mess. After days of work to remove the soft rot and weeks to allow for drying of the remaining wetted wood, I used this product to treat and seal the wood up. It worked well. It hardened the formerly wet but solid remaining wood. Like, rock hard solid. Provided a shiny coat. To replace the missing soft wood removed on the frame, I used regular Bondo wood filler. Sanded it, then sealed the repaired areas with a tube of waterproofing 100% silicone caulk, and caulked the plastic weather frame (unlike the crew who built my RV who skipped over that important detail, not to mention puncturing the weather seal near the refrigerator with unsealed screws... so much for Made in the USA American craftsmanship on this job, that's the kind of stuff that damages our reputation).Strong chemical odor when wet, would not want to use this material in an enclosed air space without a respirator. Highly flammable when wet. No open flames nearby with this stuff. Since an RV has a gas refrigerator with a pilot light, and has electrical wiring on top of that (not to mention the water heater was below the refrigerator), all propane lines need to be depressurized with DC and AC electrical turned off in that area to avoid any static sparking mishaps. Put the Dremmel away. I kept a fire extinguisher nearby just in case something went wrong. All my work was done in an outdoor setting. Some drops of the product landed on the RV bumper and dried (it's as thin as alcohol). Shiny, clear, and cannot be removed. Be careful of it splashing or dripping on other materials. Wear old clothes that don't carry static electricity. So my recommendation on this product as a rotted wood hardener is strong. It works. Glad my high-skilled carpenter neighbor recommended it. When used with regular Bondo wood filler, it solved my RV refrigerator frame box rot problem.

Wow... Does this stuff work. 5-STARS

I had some wood damage in my Coachman RV due to leaking tail lights. The wood behind the tail lights was soft and mushy after months of undiscovered water leakage.I had never used Bondo's Rotted Wood Restorer before, howeverthe reviews I read gave me some encouragement to try it.Carefully following the directions , I discovered not only does this product work exceptionally well, but it is amazingly easy to use.I simply followed the directions and when I checked the mushy areas that I had applied the restorer to, they were rock solid and ready for varnishing. It's been twelve months since I installed my new tail lights and fixed the rotten areas. The sections are still solid.I recently discovered another small league and I'm going to buy another can to apply all over the area that got wet ( but didnt rot) just to be safe. It's a small price to pay to ensure if the leak that I have now doesn't get sealed or returns, I won't have any damage. This product exceeded my expectations.

Works like a Charm!

I was getting my mail a couple of weeks ago and noticed how bad my mailbox post looked. There was some wood that was falling apart and very spongy. I purchased this restorer and followed the instructions. It was pretty cool watching the wood soak up the liquid. I applied 6 coats and let it set. I came back the next day and it was solid as a rock. I used plastic wood filler next and filled all of the larger gaps. All of that was followed up with a thorough sanding and then primer/paint. It looks brand new. As everyone knows, you need a good foundation and this stuff hardened the existing wood making it possible to repair everything else. It's amazing stuff.

Worked as advertised

The Bond Wood Filler with hardener worked like a charm. Repaired a 10” wide rotten wood on header jamb of exterior door. Filled with a piece of pressure treated wood then filled voids with wood filler. Dried in less than 30 minutes. Sanded and painted. Looks as good as new!

Works Ok

After one use could not get the top back off. I guess you have to do what you need to do the first use, or keep the product from the inner cap.It did good in some area but if the area is too soft it does not really work.

Used on multiple exterior repairs.

I used this before using the Bondo Wood Repair. It works very well on rotted areas ... but be sure to prep the areas well to get rid of any flaking or lose rotten material. For the Bondo Wood Repair, Don't mix too much at one time and don't use too much hardner. It comes with plenty of hardner and found no need to purchase any additional. I had a small and medium size putty knives ready and mixed this in a new Dixie paper plate for each application. It gets hard very quickly (5-10 minutes, depending on the temp.) ... but if you have an orbital sander and something like Dremel MultiMax with the sanding pad attachment you're set to go for almost any repair. This was used on exterior window sills, fascia, and other exterior repairs. Of course, it's good for interior as well. It sands very well and you do not have to wait long to do that. It is tough. I would normally give each application a quick sanding for larger repairs ... only takes a few minutes (I do wear a good mask and gloves). A blower is handy to get rid of the dust. I have used other wood fillers, without the hardner, and it takes a long time for them to cure before trying to sand. And, if you get any rain you have a mess.
