The growing cries of the humans to purge the Coordinators from "our pure and blue world" can be read as a commentary on 21st-century politics. Athrun agonizes over the renegades' references to his her's ideas, but finds time to court Cagalli. Director Mitsuo Fukuda skillfully blends CG and traditional animation to give the space battles maximum pizzazz.
