Very inaccurate for a GPS

Bought this Ohrex GPS to replace a several-years old Garmin which could no longer be updated (due to low memory) to guide beyond west of the Mississippi River. I was initially attracted to the large screen of the Ohrex model, and the reasonable price, and assumed the electronics would be pretty common between GPS's these days...As soon as we received the Ohrex GPS, we followed the directions in the manual and went for a drive in our own hometown and a nearby town 15 miles away. Compared to our old Garmin, the accuracy of the Ohrex was pretty bad. We use our GPS mostly when traveling to help us safely negotiate large metropolitan freeway areas when typically, several lanes of traffic are full of other vehicles traveling around 65-70mph. During our initial test of the Ohrex, it sorely missed our city hall address by 5 blocks and took us on a very round-about way to the wrong side of the building which couldn't be entered due to one-way streets. Had we been traveling in an unfamiliar city, we may have became lost. When driving to a nearby town, the navigational voice said to take a "slight left turn" on the highway approach to that area...I've never heard such a command especially when the turn was a 90 deg. left turn. What is a "slight left turn?" When entering the town on a state highway, the Ohrex directed us off that HW (where our shopping address was) and routed us unnecessarily through a tight residential area. I didn't care for any of that at all. Or that fact that the clock simply would not re-set to the correct local time regardless of which time zone I used for this area. I hate to complain, I really do, but I wouldn't trust this GPS to take me through an unfamiliar metro area at all. I just ordered a big name GPS through Amazon hoping it will be on par with the older one we can no longer use.

Great if you don't have a smart phone to navigate.

Works great 👍

Does a good job, great screen size and does not require cellular to work.

Update: Just returned from a long trip using the OHREX N800 GPS Navigator. It worked pretty well getting the fastest route and giving voice directions. The map shows gas stations and you are able to tap on them and go to them as waypoints (WP). I added some WPs during the trip and it will let you choose the time you will be at the WP to delay the voice navigation to resume. It had trouble rerouting when a turn was missed and sometimes would eventually reroute although, a few times, I had to back out of navigation then start it again for it to plan the route. The POI was less than helpful; while parked at a shopping center at our destination, it said we were at Kmart which had not been there since the mid-2000s.Not having live traffic and construction made travel less predictable although the historical traffic did advise of common congested areas. The OHREX N800 GPS Navigator worked well enough considering it is much cheaper than any brand name GPS.Most people use phones for their navigation however, they require cell signal to work. Sometimes cell is not always available so, we bought this OHREX N800.The good:1. It can be set to account for semis, RVs, boat trailers and such.2. It has a large screen that is easy to see.3. It does not require cell to work.4. Does provide an alternate route that can be selected.5. Over speed limit warning which is adjustable for how much over the speed limit it will warn you.6. Route planning7. Waypoint setting that you can add to your tripThe less than good:1. The POI cannot always find common places that have been around for decades, even though it has the "latest map set" from OHREX. This will require you to type in the exact address.2. Does not have real-time traffic like Waze.Summary:If you not concerned about up to date POIs and do not need real time traffic, but prefer the larger screen and want to free up your cell phone; this may be a good option

Late Turn Announcements!

Over all for the price OHREX GPS Navigation is an okay GPS. Bought this to replace my 13yr old Tomtom that finally kick the bucket.OHREX GPS - big screen, bright, many functions deep in the setting that can be tweaked, fast recalculation, pretty good satellite signal, volume is loud enough. Voices selection is fair. The suction arm is sturdy enough to hold the GPS in place, no issues there.OHREX GPS also came with a screen protector already installed, came with a manual, a charging mini-USB cable & a car adapter mini-USB cable and the suction arm.Battery life is pretty good. I set the backlit to 50% used it for 50mins unplugged, still have 75% battery power left. The biggest CON I found is - "OHREX GPS announces your turns, merge etc very LATE!" So basically it will say, "turn left/turn right in 100feet" when you are 5-10feet from your actual turn!! Even when the "warn/announce in advance is checked in the settings. I asked the seller about this problem, the response I got was simply "So, sorry but NO there is no fix for this" - so yeah, if you rely on the voice instructions & not pay much attention to the GPS map - you will miss your turns & merges.Another confusing announcement is, it will always say "next right, next left" even if it's the immediate right/left turn so if there are 2 right/left turns next to each other - good luck. Tomtom will always say left turn ahead, if there are 2 left turns it will specify which turn you need to make.Another CON for me is the pre-installed screen protector, it is very reflective, making the 7" screen looks like a mirror on a sunny day! Good thing I have a spare matte/anti glare tablet screen protector - cut it to size & replaced the pre-installed one, problem solved.Since I don't travel to unknown routes too often. I decided to keep the GPS since a Garmin or a Tomtom with a 5" screen cost twice the price. I'll deal with the late announcement by paying more attention, annoying but tolerable. As for durability - who knows, everything seems to be made as durable as disposable gadgets these days. The Tomtom lasted 13yrs, I'll see how long this one last.
