We purchased this to keep our dog from going through the doorway up the stairs. We're also planning on having a couple more kids, which with this will help! It installed quickly and looks great! We wanted something to go with the oil rubbed bronze of the rest of our house. The dog (Miniature Schnauzer) doesn't mess with it. Our kids, 7 and 11, can open and close it easily, though they have trouble doing it with just one hand. Adults have no problem with the one-handed operation. Also, the stay open feature is really nice and easy. We love that it opens the same both directions, so coming and going are easy. We put both extensions on the sides, and it's still nice and sturdy.Update: we have also been using this for my now 2 year old twins. They just recently punched a hole in the wall with it... they shook the gate so hard so often that it just weakened the drywall in that spot. So, if you're using it on drywall without a stud behind, perhaps put a stabilizer board between the gate and the wall to spread out the pressure! Still my favorite baby gate to date!

We have gone through a few baby gates, all by different brands, and this is the first that really fits the bill.It's pressure mounted, made of sturdy metal, can lock, stay open, swing closed and lock automatically. It's everything anyone could want in a baby gate.The set up is the most time consuming part, and even that isn't that bad. It's high up enough that my kids will be safely contained even as they grow in height, and there are no places for little fingers to get pinched. Very clever design. I would absolutely recommend this gate to anyone, and wonder why people bother with those take-down gates when you can have one that's easy to open and close, and can even stay open when you don't need to keep kids out. Both my husband and I love this gate and would not hesitate to get another should the need ever arise.

I was worried that this gate would look tacky at the doorway to my living room but it actually looks great. Very high quality. Assembly is not as easy as I expected though but with a little patience, it is definitely worth it.The door to the gate works very well, super easy to use. It swings open in both directions and stays open when you push it back. My very high-strung dog has no chance of getting out of this gate. Very pleased with my purchase!

I have two of these gates and have never had a problem with either one. They stay solidly in place and the latch works great.

The gate is solid. I'm using it in a 30" doorway between the kitchen and dining /living area to keep an 18 month old out of the kitchen and to keep him separated from the dog when he gets pesky. The gate does not come "bent" as some reviewers have noted, in fact there was a sheet of paper saying it isn't bent in the box. Since there can be no solid bar across the top the posts are farther apart at the top, so that when the adjustments are made to vertical there will be solid pressure against the door jambs, like compressing a spring. Assembly is not difficult but the adjustments are somewhat critical to proper operation. It should be squared up nicely and the gap at the latch has to be right. The gate swings both ways, stay open when fully opened and self-closes on anything less or with a gentle shove. The double action of pulling the catch back and lifting the whole gate, maybe an inch, takes a bit of getting used to but it will thwart the efforts of a toddler to figure it out. I did not need either of the two extensions provided for my small doorway. The gate will keep your baby safe but it may take more than a few adjustments to get so that it operates properly. If that isn't done you may find the latch won't engage. Any DIYer with modest skills will get it but some of the reviews and pictures accompanying some reviews show that there are klutzy people out there for whom this thing will be a contraption. Oh, and it will stand up to a big dog or kid throwing his weight on or against it.

Fabulous gate for $58! I bought 2 so my basengi's wouldn't escape to the front yard. Needed a razor knife to cut the zip ties and that's it! Comes with a wrench to turn the pressure feet. Color is more brown than bronze which matches perfectly with my expresso colored accessories. Heavy duty metal and to open the gate you pull up at the curve to open: let go and it swings back in place to click closed. There's also a twist lock for extra security. We're over 5'7" and can step over it; nothing for basengis to climb on so they can't scale it! Don't be alarmed that the gate looks 'sprung' at the latch, right out of the box. When u put the pressure feet on and tighten the gate, the latch comes in to line. I'm a 54 year old female, my daughter and I installed 2 in less than 30 minutes. So elegant and nothing like them in Petco! Absolutely thrilled;) . Amazon was great, I do prime so free shipping and they got here in 2 days...a win all around!

This Gate is a high quality item. It is also attractive and easy to use. We use it to keep our dog from going into the bedrooms, and have it across a 36" hallway. So far there have been no problems, and we are very pleased with the quality and operation.

Wow, this is one sturdy gate. I bought it just to keep my doggies out of the hall, but it is the sturdiest gate I've ever owned and I would definitely trust it at the top of stairs if my child was still young. One caveat...the color is darker than expected, not black but closer to that than brown. As such it doesn't match my other gates but it's such an excellent gate I'm okay with it. Besides, it replaced a white one that really didn't match! Another plus, the self closing and latching feature actually works. I didn't expect it to, but it does! I purchased the wall protection cups that were advertised as a + item. They should be helpful in protecting my walls since this gate has to be really tightened down to work. I will say they are a lot larger than I expected and white (!) so don't look that nice, but are probably worth it to save my walls. Again, I use this gate for doggies but would highly recommend it for babies, too.
