Works beautifully but suggest getting 50mm instead of the standard 30mm.

The top doesn't open easily and have to use a scissors to snip it open. I am fine with it as it gives me more control over how large an opening I want. You need to squish them a bit while it is being hydrated to ensure it stands up straight before snipping the top off.I suggest getting the 50 mm instead of the 30 mm. It gives you more breathing room for the roots.Because it uses a mesh bag instead of plastic (like in a typical seed tray) to hold the plants, the roots are healthier. It doesn't root bound but allows the root to air prune as it reach the edge.I heard the mesh bag don't decompose well so just before I transplant, I just make a slit and tear the mesh bag off before transplant. As long the soil isn't dry, the roots hold the soil well enough that it is easy to transplant even without the mesh bag. Please don't expect any nutrients in this. In fact, I don't even want any nutrients in it. I prefer to control how much fertilizer it gets. It is a peat pellet that helps seed germination not a plant pot. So set your expectation.

So far so good...

I started a few pellets in a bowl of warm water and they immediately started to expand. I squished them around a bit to break up the peat in the bag and put back in the water to finish absorbing as I worked on placing seeds in already prepared pellets. This system worked well and ensured each pellet was well saturated. The baggies are closed but there is a perforated area to easily pull open or snip with scissors in order to access the starter peat to plant the seeds. It's recommended for 1 seed per pellet, but I planted a few per pellet in case some done germinate and will just thin as needed, and the 30mm size is pretty great for the majority of my seeds. The larger seeds probably could have been better suited for the 36mm pellets, but I didn't have those so I'll just transplant a little sooner into a larger pot for those seedlings.I had several seedlings emerging after 3 days: lettuce, broccoli, and cucumbers so far. I've utilized the peat pellets, mini greenhouses (both purchased and re-imagined sources), a seedling heat pad and a west facing window (the only area in my house with enough room and enough sunlight for my seedlings).I can't speak to the nutrients provided to my seedlings or what their hardiness is going to be yet, but so far, the seedlings that are emerging look good and started quicker than planned so that's a positive in my book.I didn't expect the little garden tools, because honestly I just wanted to pellets and didn't pay attention to the extras, but they were actually handy to be able to indent the pellets to drop seeds in. So, added bonus there.I read a few reviews that several of the pellets had fallen apart during shipping and were just peat mess in the box, but this was not the case for my order of 200. Each one was in tact and expanded as expected. However, also as expected, was that the inside of the box was dusty with peat dust but we're dealing with compressed 'dirt', it's bound to get a little dusty.Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase and working of these pellets so far. I intend to purchase more for my next round of seedlings as long a good remainder of my seeds emerge within their germination time frame.

Expands quickly

Expand quickly, no offensive odor, yet to see how well it germinates the seeds.

Love this product!!

I use this all the time for my plans and for my seeds, the quality is great and instructions are very easy to read. I love that they had the fabric around the pod since is very easy to handle.

Horticultural horror

Super unhappy with these. Planting was a nightmare because in most cases I wasn't able to figure out which end was up..both were closed off and it really took some effort to open them...and a lot of them ripped. they dry out immediately, I don't know if I'm going to be able to salvage the plants that did manage to germinate. I think I'm going to put them in larger containers sooner than they should go so I can get some decent medium around them. Jiffy are about the same price but actually work, there is a difference. These little bags of dirt lack the technology needed to be little bags of dirt. Who knew?

They work, but spend the extra on the name brand.

These pucks are okay. I wish I had spent the extra money on the Jiffy ones, but they will work. These are a smaller diameter than the Jiffy ones, and the perforated tops are hit and miss whether or not they open properly. These also do not expand evenly, so they do not stand up on their own for the most part. I have some small high sided trays that I use for germination, so this isn't a huge issue for me, I can lean them against the sides, and it will work. But they are definitely not as convenient as the Jiffy brand ones I have used in the past. Also, the label claims that peat moss is nutritional for plants. That's a straight out lie. Soak the pucks in water with liquid fertilizer at half strength for best results in my experience. Peat moss is excellent at holding water, which is great for germination, but it has little to no nutritional value for the plants.

Easy to Use

These are great and so easy to use. I put them in biodegradable pots to start my sunflower seeds. So easy!
