If your new to this brand please read

Okay so this was my 3rd attempt to accomplish what I was looking for. I was looking for a one handed wireless keyboard to use with my steam link setup in my bedroom. I have a 3k gaming PC setup in my basement with Razer keyboard and mouse, however now that I have kids I hardly ever have the chance to escape downstairs so steam link has been my saving grace. A coworker told me about this brand so I decided to give it a shot.First I bought the Red Thunder r60 keyboard (mixed up red Thunder with red dragon). This keyboard arrived dead/defective so I wasn't able to test it out, however it was very cheaply made, you could tell just picking it up how light it was. Keys felt loose and cheap.Next I bought this keyboard, however I was unaware of the different switch types. I ordered the first option which was "blue switches". Holy cow talk about loud, this thing was like popping bubble wrap each time a key was pressed. After talking to my coworker he explained there are different switches available. After a quick search on their website I saw the 4 different types of switches and decided that the red switches were for me. Since I play at night I needed the keyboard to be quiet. The red switches fit the bill. Paired with a silent mouse and Bluetooth headphones I can game through out night without disturbing my spouse or children. As far as the keyboard itself - it's nice, I wouldn't call it Razer quality but at a quarter of the price it works for me. Buttons feel great, the magnetic wrist support makes it easy to deattach and store in my nightstand. The wireless transmission has a pretty impressive range, my TV is about 20ft from my bed and I have no issues with connectivity. Can't say much about the macro feature yet, but it works great for hours of playing Satisfactory on my big screen while laying in bed.

Great with one downside

This is my first adventure with a one handed gaming keyboard. I've used it playing one game, Subnautica. So far it has been great for gaming. I was able to figure out how to control the RGB fairly easy. It's not apparently obvious that you need to plug it in and install the software to really control the keyboard lighting and bindings and such. For the game, it was good to go out of the box. Subnautica doesn't really use specialized keybindings. Pretty uncomplicated. I got some pudding keycaps from Redragon and changed some of the keycaps to make certain keys even easier to spot quickly. The one downside I found was when I was using it to control media volume. I pretty easily assigned two of the G macro keys to be volume +/-. The space bar would play/pause, super easy. My problem happened when I was kicked back in my recliner watching YouTube on the connected flat screen.Let me set the scene. I am recovering from a foot wound and have to keep it elevated as much as possible. So we put wheels on my desk (it's an adjustable desk from IKEA, very simple desk... I love it!) so I could move it around. We moved my recliner into the area so I could kick back, raise my desk up and pull it up to my chair mostly. So I sit with my feet up but still under the desk. The desk is still far enough back that I can't reach the desktop easily. I move the keyboard to my lap for easy control and the mouse to the arm rest. My old corded keyboard could reach, so you have an idea of the distance.Anyway, when this keyboard is in my lap or just off the desk, it won't work. It loses connection with the dongle. I have found that even if there is something between this keyboard and the dongle it will lose connection. If I had a different arrangement, this would be a deal breaker. I have a gaming laptop which sits on the desk with an attached flat screen as a secondary monitor. The dongle for this keyboard is plugged into a USB multiport adapter. Not hidden behind anything. The USB port is on the right side of the laptop and the game keyboard is used left handed but usually sits in front of the laptop so I can use my left hand and be comfortable positioned in front of the flat screen. So mostly to the middle/right of my desk. In one photo you see my desk with this keyboard on the right, between the laptop just under the left edge of the monitor is the USB multiport where the dongle is plugged in and then the mouse over to the right. In the second photo you see a corded xbox controller blocking the USB multiport. That is enough to disrupt the connection and keyboard will not work. An no, the controller is not plugged in, its just sitting there. So all that is to say If I had a desktop that sat under the desk, this keyboard would be unusable. Otherwise I'm completely satisfied with it and the Redragon pudding keycaps.

Excellent for gaming, except...

Excellent for gaming, except for the annoying firmware update tool that launches automatically at its own schedule during my games. Its intrusive and has never worked since I bought this. It asks to download and install new firmware, I click "okay", and it spends indefinitely looking for it's website. It is basically a game disruptor that has yet to be successful. Other than this irritating intrusion, the keypad works great.

Software to program works. Many features

This keyboard is shockingly good for the price. It feels very solid to use and the switches are smooth. The software is not easy to find, install, or use but it gives more features than most high end keyboards. It allows you to remap every key, change the colors to however you want, and each M# button at top can contain a different key mapping and/or color setup. It is fairly easy to use once it gets running. Now to install and use the software. First you have to go to red dragons web page and go to the download at top of screen. Search of the k585 and make sure you pick the wireless one. You get some zip file that has a couple of directories. Inside one directory is another archive (a rar instead of zip). If you are running the latest version of windows 11, it can handle extracting from the rar otherwise you’d need winrar. Once you extract the exe file from that rar, you run it to install the software. Then you launch the software. It seems to not load or do anything. But actually it does start running, but only shows up in your taskbar corner icons. The icon will only be in the hidden area so you have to click on the up arrow to expand those. It will be just a grayed out symbol that you can right click on. Now you have to plug in the keyboard directly via usb cable. Once the keyboard is plugged in, that task bar icon for the red dragon software will go to red from gray. You now can right click on and then click on configure. Not an easy process for sure. But it does work and is excellent once it gets going.
