Q: Does this thing have a filter? or do i have to purchase a separate thing to reduce water hardness? i searched but cannot find anything for this miko

There's a small filter, but I don't think it will touch dissolved minerals. You might be better off buying distilled water if you're concerned about hard water.

Q: Does the warm mist feature still use ultrasonic? I worry about all the particulate matter getting into the air that's a health risk.

Yes. The unit has a heater that warms the water, but the ultrasonic element is still what disperses it. The water doesn't get hot enough to evaporate itself.

Q: could i use rain water?

I have done some reading on how to make your own distilled water at home and where the rain water is an option it’s said the be the least desirable option. Yes, it’s distilled and after 48 hours the sediment falls to the bottom, BUT like the other person said the quality of the water isn’t guaranteed and could cause more harm than good. Do a quick Google search on rain water for humidifiers or how to distill water at home and there are some ways. Although it seems getting the things you drop in the tank is more efficient or just spending the Buck or so for a gallon of distilled water from the market may be your best bet if you want distilled.

Q: How do I get more mist- it produces very little??

I thought the same thing at first … it seems like it takes a good 2-5 minutes for the mist to come out at it’s full amount. Once I waited a couple minutes I was shocked at how much mist this little machine actually does put out! Also, like the other person commented, make sure you have it on level three (hit the button three times and you’ll see one bar, two bars and then three bars when it’s on the highest setting.). If you have it on the highest setting and wait about five minutes and it’s still not producing a LOT of mist, I would get a replacement, because this little guy packs a punch and is the best humidifier I’ve ever had!
