Excellent resource
I’ve borrowed countless landscaping books from the library, so I can tell you this is an excellent resource and I’m glad I bought it. It includes illustrations and photos showing each design from different angles and uses plants I can easily find at the local plant nurseries. The money I’m saving on a landscape architect will be used to develop a plan for my yard, around my house and on the edge of my woods using this book.

Not a bad place to start.
This is a pretty decent book if you are new to gardening. I like it for the many layout ideas and the fact that each of the designs offers ideas for both sunny and shady areas. I'm in zone 5 and most of the suggested plants will work here, but the book does point out that some plants will not survive in zone 4 or 3 (which is quite a lot of the Northeast!).My main criticism is that it's a bit outdated in approach and style. Some of the plants it calls for, especially dumb evergreens like arborvitae, are plants installed by my home's previous, much older owner and which I am trying to remove and replace.I often find myself thinking about what kinds of natives would be good substitutes for the plants suggested in some of the designs. Like dwarf varieties of native Ilex instead of boxwood. I wish it took ecology into greater consideration.

Great book for North East Landscaping
I have never had a green thumb or thought about gardening landscaping until recently. This book provides an amazing overview for the northeast area; from the basics to overall plans.

Great book
Great book with lots of ideas and various concepts. I took a lot of notes for my own garden. I love that it tells you the specific type of plant whether it does well in sun or shade or whatever types of conditions. Has some things in there I didnt think of so will be taking it all to my local nursery to special order if they dont have it.

Comprehensive and Easy to Use.
Bought this book as a reference for my wife, a weekend gardener. She loves it, especially in the ring bound version, for handy use on the spot.

Cookie cutters
Depending on your home, you may find some excellent ideas in here. However, there is nothing in this book to teach you how to make your own design. The book is a series of cookie cutter landscapes; good for a layman who simply wants to copy something out of a book, however this book will be almost useless to an aspiring landscape designer.Pros: An easy read. If one of the cookie cutter templates fits your yards layout it will likely look very good. The plants suggested in the cookie cutters are mostly tough plants which don't need intensive care.Cons: Nothing in this book would work on my yard, which has a unique layout. This book will not teach you how to design a custom landscape. At all.
