Q: Does the diffuser screw and flap come preinstalled? Mine came separate, and does not fit in.

Yes, the sprinkler head came assembled, but had to be attached to the the frame of the unit. It was not difficult to attach the assembled head it just screwed onto the frame. Hope this helps. Thank you

Q: Do they make extensions to make these taller?

I’m not for sure that they make extensions for this particular sprinkler, but the legs do adjust to make the sprinkler stand taller. The framing has lock latches and are very secure. No regrets purchasing this sprinkler.

Q: The deflector won't stay in position, so it basically doesn't work. Is there a way to make it stay in position and actually deflect the water?

Hi I have two of these and they work great. The deflectors are hard to move. I looked at mine and it looks like it is riveted and the set screw that spreads the water as well goes throught it. I was goint to suggest crimping the rivot tighter, but that would ruin the threading of the spray set screw. If it's in warrenty I would send it back. Otherwise mine work great. If out of warrenty you could compress the barrel and rivet to tighten and then rethread for the set screw. Just an idea by looking at it. If I needed to fix mine that's what I'd try
