Does this light have any purple or violet leds?
Will this light work for a coral reef tank 24 inches deep?
This model has 9 leds. What makes it superior to other $60-80 models (for lps & easy sps) that have well... Many many more than 9 leds?
Does this have to manually be turned on everytime due to the touch button?

Great device, buying another one, recomend it to others.

This is a very well designed, engineered, produced and finished device. ;0The light fixture itself reminds one somewhat of a "VCR" cassette. approximately the same width and thickness and height but about two inches linger. The "feel" of the light portion is nice and the finish on the "arm" is rather amazing, it really does feel rather like "skin" when one is handling it, it reminds this person of what is called a "powder" finish. There are multiple screws with turning knobs, two large for the mounting bracket an "cap nuts' again, all well finished. A couple of the cap nuts were missing and the company replaced them quickly, .....arriving on a Sunday! :)Since one will be manipulating it several times during it's lifetime having something pleasurable with which to work is a good thing in terms of repeat orders! :)It has a set of VERY BRIGHT actinic lights and also blue lights of which I cannot opine but they do produce a very nice bright effect in the corals... Quite a "glow".One fish which was acclimated to a "fluorescent" actinic ( which is not as strong ) went and hid under a coral but new ones did just fine with it.I am also using it as a "test" for culturing algae, I teach college biology, and the algae are thriving! :)One of the problems with raising algae in a laboratory / classroom situation is that of it being a multi -use room and I plan to make an "L" frame upon which I will attach this so that the materials can be moved as necessary. The power cord is quite long, 6 feet approximately with a "banana plug" in the middle so that one can get a setting correct on the light itself and not have to turn it on and off when entering and exiting the room. And the reason for that is...The light fixture uses two "touch pad" buttons ( on the top ) with a plus sign and a minus sign, to cycle through pure blue light to the white "actinic" mode. This is a great thing in that it produces a situation rather like " a dimmer" but at no extra cost or extra device which can fail and that, again, in a laboratory / classroom setting a teacher can change the lighting for a particular use and another professor can so do also. The only slight criticism that I might have is that it might be nice to include maybe "two" ( 2 ) red LEDs in the follow on product but that, in and of itself, presents engineering problems and also USER problems in that another button would have to be added for the red LEDs and the USER would have manipulate three buttons. The best fit answer might be...a remote....but again, that presents problems in terms of getting lost, battery acid messing it up and such....so..maybe the best thing is to let an already good thing alone. :)All in all it is VERY well designed, I would recommend it for anyone who needs some kind of design that is not attached to "the underside of a shelf"; and I will be purchasing another for use in the laboratory.

Maybe I got a different light than some of you...

Timer doesn't work? PAR not enough? Simply not true unless you got a faulty unit. The timer can be tricky, but you must READ the instructions! You can easily set your timer by the middle button. Simple as that. Many complaining that they cant set the time the light comes on or the light shuts off after you set it. When you plug in the light, the timer starts. If you want it to start at 9am, plug it in at 9am. If you want it to start at 10am, plug it in at 10am. It is literally that simple. The light goes on while you set it so you can view your settings. It auto shuts off after a minute or two if it is not within your timer settings. If it is, it will stay on.The PAR isn't enough? I'd check you PAR meter. I have this light over a small SPS tank and everything is doing great. Actually started bleaching things when I had it turned up all the way. I am getting the following numbers 6" under the water. I didn't test a few combos (B5:W3 or B5:W4), but you get the idea:B1 = 62B2 = 109B3 = 156B4 = 202B5 = 237W1= 50W2 = 91W3 = 124W4 = 156W5 = 195B1:W1 = 120B2:W1 = 170B3:W1 = 215B4:W1 = 264B5:W1 = 307B5:W2 = 344B5:W5 = 422Overall, this light has great color and is more than enough light. I wish there was more blue (maybe swap a white or two for a few more blue), but for the price, you cant go wrong. If you want a great budget light with good control, active cooling, and great output, then this one is it. I will be picking up a few more for my other tanks.

I bought two of these!

EDIT: 6/10 About 16 months and still going strong!I didn't want to spend $200+ for the Kessils and AIs that are so popular and require ridiculous expensive extras like gooseneck mounts. Everyone always blows a ton of money on those powerful lights just to turn the power down and mount them 4ft above the tank (exaggerating, but you get the idea). So I bought two of these guys.Impressions thus far:Pros:Comes with mount and everything you need to be up and running in five minutes.Very quietRuns cool; rarely get warm enough for the fans to kick on.Lights not strong enough to heat up the water in the tank.Small units, able to fit two of them over the Fluval 13.5 EvoAdjustable whites and blues to customize the color and intensityVery strong punch for such small and affordable lights. Blues-only put out over 100 PAR @ bottom of Evo 13.5, whites+blues bump that up to 200 PAR at bottom of tank. Middle of tank where SPS are usually mounted hits about 250 PAR with whites and blues both at max.Cons:Touch buttons for white and blue light adjustment is awful. You have to keep count in your head as to how many times you touch the sensor and pray that the sensor picked up all the touches. First touch is 100% and then the lights gradually dim (I'm assuming at 10% increments) at each additional touch. If you lose count in your head or unsure if a touch registered, you have to go all the way back down to Off and start over.Color separation can be distracting. Because there are so few LEDs and they are spaced so far away from each other, multiple shadows are cast everywhere. There is a distinct separation between the white and blue shadows, so there is almost a prism effect and it can be distracting when there is a lot of surface agitation/shimmer. Running my two Hipargeros next to each other has helped mask this effect as there are now double the LEDs shining in the tank, but most people who buy this light are probably only going to buy one and will therefore experience that separation effect between the white and blue shadows.Last complaint is the mount does not get short enough. These lights are obviously made for nano tanks, so I'm not sure why the mount arm is so long...or why they include an extension to make it even longer. At its shortest mounting position, my light was still extended out past the middle of my tank that is 11.5" wide from front to back. Most folks keep their rockwork and corals in the middle and back of tank, so I'm not sure why the makers of the product would provide a mount that prevents people from positioning the light more towards the rear of the tank. All in all, the pros far outweigh the cons for this amazing little light. I am growing micromussa/acans, favites, rock flower anemones, favia, leptoseris, birdsnest SPS, duncans, zoas, and leathers. The birdsnest is growing very fast and healthy. I am going to try some more demanding SPS here in the next month or so, just want to give the tank some more time to get established (at five months right now) before adding more sensitive animals.EDIT - Wanted to come back and add photos of some of the corals I am growing with these lights.
