You canāt beat the price
I paired it with a Littma light surf rod 20lb test line.I caught a couple of these.I use to use my friends stuff so I decided bu buy my own rod and reel.He liked the feel the minute he held it.I have no complaints.I gave it 5 stars but remember I am not an expert.

Great for extreme saltwater uses
The media could not be loaded. Wow, I'm impressed with the reel it's very smooth and excellent for saltwater extreme uses.I wanted to give the opportunity to the reel because i have a Tempo Sphera spinning two tips M-MH and at this moment I don't have any complain with it.Without a doubt I can recommend it to those who are looking for a reel since the quality definitely exceeds its value.Definitely i will buy another reel.I have three 2000 , one 3000 and a few weeks ago 2024, i received my fourth reel but this time it was a 4000.

Fix two items, THEN 5 stars.
The media could not be loaded. The overall functionality of this reel is 4 of 5 stars. Two primary items reduce the rating and one other minor item. The appearance of this reel is great. The reel feels a little stiff while reeling. I added a little light silicone lube to the main shaft under the spool, and to the two bearings where the handle threads/screws into the chassis, and that helped. I was going to add a drop or two to the main gear but the screws are not phillips but are allen head, so it wasn't convenient to do quick field maintenance. ALL of my other reels use phillips head to remove the side cover(s).There is a little metal cover under the spool that looks like a lubrication or drain hole, where I removed it with a phillips screwdriver. See pic. From the factory, the large and somewhat sharp-edged handle knob, had annoying side-to-side play. See video. Thankfully, the reel comes with two extra shim bushings that, although are intended for the spool shimming to adjust how the line spools on the reel, the washer DOES fit snugly over the shaft of the handle (where the knob seats) by first removing the knob via a dime/penny and then the phillips head (why not make it all phillips??). Then I added the shim, between the white knob-collar (you might see what I mean) and the handle assembly. Then, I tensioned the phillips screw until the knock-knock stops but doesn't restrict the rotation. It's all by feel and very easy. I added a drop of light synthetic oil to the white bushings. So after 15 minutes, the reel feels much better. The bail feels great, btw, and the drag seems fine. For the sale/overstock price I paid, it is WELL worth it. At the full price, I'm not thinking it is worth it. I will keep this reel. It doesn't feel clunky, which I like. And the handle threads into the frame. Nice. The knob is large but has a sharp edge. It may be prone to damage, if dropped. It is metal so it may resist breaking but could ding pretty good. I guess you could store something of interest in the void behind the big cap.I purchased another spinning at the same price of the normal price of this reel. That reel is better, smoother, lighter retrieve. But the bail function is better on the Tempo and the rotor of the Tempo feels true.

Crushed reel box
The reel box was crushed on one side, but the box it was packed in was good. The reel did not spin as it should; it slows on one spot w/ a slow retrieve. To ALL those Amazon employees, managers and supervisors or sellers: Thanks for sending me something that was obviously and physically/visibly defective. That is some great attention to detail and customer service, when somebody puts a crushed box/item inside a perfectly good shipping box. It shouldn't surprise me, but I still can't figure out why, Amazon.

Bigger than I expected, but Nice.
Larger and heavier than expected, it weighs 18oz not 16.9oz. It will hold more line than 300yds/10lb mono, considerably more. I purchased this for a particular slow pitch jigging rod but this reel is too big and heavy for it. However, I had a heavy jigging spinning rod, 50-100lb class I bottom fish with that I was wanting to upgrade the reel on to a more sturdy reel. This Persist 5000 is a good match for it so I will keep the Persist 5000.

2 months and going strong.
Have been using this reel for 20+ hours now for surfperch fishing and no issues. Holding up to the salt air and occasional sand blast without any issues.Iāve caught around 10 Redtail surfperch now with this reel. Iām a newbie to fishing and recommend this one to people fishing for surfperch.

Pleasantly Surprised
I had never heard of Tempo fishing reels before finding them on Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they have been in the business for 30 years. This reel is very well made and operates very smoothly. The drag is easy to adjust and very strong. Very good product. My only criticism would be the price, although it's still pretty affordable. I just think that there are some very comparable reels from Kastking or Piscifun that are a bit more affordable and probably just as good.
