Really great plaster for silicone molds.

I was really confused by all the reviews saying this stuff set up way too fast. That said, I started with their thinnest recommendation of 3 part water and 4 parts powder. I poured it in and after a full half hour it was still liquid! That's not what I was reading.Oh well, the next batch I used the 2 parts water and 3 parts powder. Hmm.. a little better but still took too long for what I am planning. The third batch I went 150ml of water and 400ml of powder....Ahhh! Don't do that! I quickly added water to thin it and it actually did thin good enough to make the pour.So what did I learn? Pack your patience and stay with the 2 parts water, 3 parts powder. It still sets in about 35 minutes plus gives you time to tap out the bubbles. With Halloween coming up, I need to sell skulls now. My resin skulls are beautiful but no body wants to spend 20 bucks on a Halloween decoration. It cost me 12 dollars to make them.My daughter had a better idea with this plaster which costs a tiny fraction of what resin does. Plus we are going to paint them. She has her own ideas and I have mine. We'll see who's is better.Anyway, experiment with this plaster a bit. I really like it. I have not used plaster since I was a kid so this is kind of new to me.

Worked great.

Works great!Take note, it hardens up very quickly, so if you need more time, add more water to the mixture than the ratio the box says.

First time using plaster for my sculpture casts and I chose right!

Does everything as advertised, mixed extremely well, air bubbles were really easy to release, and the cast looks amazing! You can see some fine details in my hand. I would post a photo, but it was my first try so I figured I'd do something simple and go with the traditional middle finger. I didn't want to ruin one of my clay sculptures just in case.To sum it up; great stuff, easy to work with - even for noobs, cured clean (limited clean up), cured solid, and the amount you get for the price is a bargain.

Great Product

This product is very good, the only thing is the directions of 2 parts water to 3 parts powder. Maybe you could put an example of different measuring types. Like 2 cups water to 3 cups powder, not a lot of people understand that kind of stuff.

Intermediate cost and value plaster for art projects - steep learning curve

The Reasonable Reviewer family are big craft and art enthusiasts.Molding, model making, and casting have been staples of ours for a long time.At the low end of the cost and quality scale is commercial, wall plaster. You can buy 50 pounds for a very reasonable price, and you can do a lot of things with it. At the high end are dental casting products like hydro-calc. Those products can craft incredible details and are very strong, but you have to pay a premium price for them.In-between those extremes is this art plaster.(Please see the enclosed pictures.)This plaster is relatively expensive compared to regular plaster of Paris, and I found that it hardens very, very, very quickly. It was not easy to mix and use. Even after trying a variety of mixing ratios, water temperatures, etc., about half the time, the product hardened before I could get it entirely in a mold. (Tricks like using cold water or adding some amounts of lemon juice or vinegar only resulted in plaster that never really set.)If you are planning on doing detailed plaster work then this is not the right product for you.If you have open-faced molds, homemade molds (e.g., old egg cartons), or you are looking to produce a lot of something relatively simple without a lot of detail then this plaster might work for you.Reasonable Reviewer recommends that you take a graduated approach to choosing your plaster.Start with wall plaster from a large, home improvement store first and see if that works for you. You could get a 5 lbs bag for less than you would play for one pound of this plaster. Play with the wall plaster a bit, and see what you can do.If that does not work well, try plaster of Paris that is a step up from the wall plaster, but is still significantly less expensive that this art plaster. Finally, if you are still looking for more detail then you might want to try this plaster. It is not a bad product, but it is relatively expensive for what you get, and you are going to have to take some significant time learning to use it.
