fantastic first ukulele!
I just received this, so I will try to update the review after a month or two of playing. First of all, I think this company must have been paying attention to all the complaints about cheap strings, because mine came strung with aquilas. This is my first ukulele, so keep in mind I don't know much. First of all, I expected a somewhat crappy sound and appearance from a largely plastic instrument. That was not the case. This little thing sounds great and looks well made and attractive (mine is black). Granted, it was badly out of tune, but once I deciphered the poorly translated instructions on the tuner tightening up the strings to the correct tone was easy. (I got close using a digital piano, then used the handy electronic tuner).Research had told me that it would take a week or two for the strings to hold tune, so I wasn't surprised when it came out of tune almost immediately, but it was kind of fun to tune it up, so there you go.I have no string instrument experience, so contorting my fairly stiff 50 year old hands to the tiny fretboard is a challenge, but I think with practice I'll be just fine.As for the gig bag, the uke actually came with two. The first was very thin, and I doubt that I will ever use it. The other, was actually sturdy and well made. No real padding though, and a pocket would have been nice to hold extra strings and the tuner, but at least it will keep the dust off.I haven't used the instructional disc yet, so can't say anything about that. (I'm using ukulele for dummies). All in all, I would say that this was an excellent buy, although I can't wait for the strings to settle in. I should add, that in case you are embarrassed for your ups guy to see that you are ordering a uke (as I was), it did come in plain package.updates to follow*****OK. I've had this uke for almost a month, and I'm still thrilled with this purchase. I've played it so much that I feel like Bryan Adams in the summer of '69. (Saying I played it 'til my fingers bled for you young folks--not really just 'til they were very sore). My fingertip calluses are coming in nicely. Now for more specific stuff. This still looks great. The plastic body still looks brand new with a wipedown from a microfiber cloth (included). It holds its tune very, very well. I only have to tune when there is a large temperature or humidity change (not sure which caused it), so that I can just pick it up and play.I should also mention that I showed this to one of my guitar snob friends and practically had to fight him to get it back. These things are really fun to play.I still haven't used the instructional dvd, so still no opinion on that.To sum up: Zero regrets about this purchase. It was worth every penny and more. If you are thinking about buying a uke, don't hesitate to buy this one.

Love this little piece of heaven!!!
Well, after hours looking at and reading of reviews, I finally put this Uke, in my cart. The package got here very quickly and packed to perfection. While I have never played one before, I am at least aware enough that I knew with the tuning gadget, I would be able to get it tuned, but Since it is a Christmas present for my adult daughter, I wanted to use these few weeks left, to get it to hold it's tuned strings. (Pretty nice strings they put on the final product, was a nice thing to find also!) Taking the time now, to allow the strings to be stretched enough to hold its tune, is grestvifbubcan do it! YouTube also gave me some great videos I could start out with, and after taking about 10 minutes to get it tuned and semi stay in tune, the one video then progressed into showing me like three different chords, then strum along with him on this little melody. By the third chord placement viewing, I was totally ready to play along with him on that first song! To late to get into more YouTube videos, but they are there, so do take advantage of having them just a couple clips away! I also found that my IPhone actually had a tuning app too!!!Jennifer has an amazing singing voice, and I think she asked for one (in blue!) so she can start to sing more again. Being a lawyer for the actual city council keeps her very busy, busy enough that she no longer has spare time to get back into musical theatre or opera, so this she thinks will get her singing more! (That makes me very happy!)But bottom line, if you do like to sing, then you kinda need an instrument of some kind to play also. Well, I must say that while it may look like a toy, it really isn't!!! The sound quality was really good, & of which I worried the most about. Let me ease your mind by telling you, this sweet little musical instrument, will make you very happy you ordered it on Amazon. Even if you did so without touching or hearing it first. Yes, keeping it even for yourself, or gifting it to make someone else very happy is just the bonus of buying this instrument from this seller!!! I am pretty sure I am going to buy one for myself too!!!The cheap little bag it came with, was supplemented by a little bit better side zipper nylon fabric case that also came with the package. Also the electronic tuner AND its lithium battery was sweet to see added, as well as a DVD I have yet to view, plus a nylon rag to use to wipe it off was also included. I am thinking I will actually get a few plastic woven pieces to cut out, to put in the lining of the better case, I am going to make for it this week.Great buy at a great price, for a really nice instrument you or someone you know might really get a kick out of, if they woke up to see that Santa indeed answers even softly asked for Prayers!!!

great for the price!!!!!!
Great Tone. Careful not to tighten the string too much when they begin to wear like my uncle did. The neck may start cracking from the body. Took a lot of abuse though. Brought one to Ulithi for a bit of R&R from typhoon relief work. everyone loved the warm tone and enjoyed sharing and playing musics. don't know about the dvd never watched it. the tuner worked alright but we don't tune things the same way. this tuner has settings for specific instruments. didn't work for our tuning. or maybe we just didn't take time to figure it out. we all tune by ear anyhow though.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf-NCpV1BsIthats a link to a video i shot before i left 5 months ago. a little sampler for the sound if you so please. hope you enjoy yours as much as i did. be warned before you watch the video. it was filmed with a tablet. not the best sound quality but at least its something to hear. cheers all.
