Working well to transfer VHS home videos
This device is working great. I’ve so far transferred about a dozen VHS tapes to digital video with audio. Easy to use as well. The digital recording is done to a memory stick, and the device includes a small monitor. This allows me to transfer video without tying up resources on a computer. I can focus my time on the computer with video editing, and meanwhile allow the transfer to happen as the VHS tapes plays through. The recorder splits up video into 4GB segments as a default. You can also set a timer to automatically stop recording after a set period of time. The device has saved money and risk compared to sending the videos to a service to be transferred. It also works with audio only. I am planning to transfer audio cassettes, old records, and reel-to-reel as well soon. I’ll update after those are done.So far so good.

Sweet little box of wonder!
Love it, but it needs better quality materials. It gets the job done. And with a 512gb memory stick, you can back up 10 or more VHS tapes. Super easy to setup. I have it hooked up to my piggie backed vcr and DVD player. Simple to bring your DVD's into digital formats. No more shuffling to find that disc to play. Great product. Now I'm going to hook up an hdmi to rca and run computer videos to backup.

Great recorder with solid connections and useful features.
After my horrible experience with the clear click 3.0 (should call it clear cr@p) I wanted to try this brand.First the S-video connection is SOLID.Something the clearclick failed miserably at. It would literally fall out of the device making it unusable. I'm using these devices to record straight to MicroSD on my old Sony PD150.PROS OF THIS DEVICE:SOLID CONNECTIONSINTUITIVE LAYOUTLOTS OF CONTROL OVER VIDEO FORMAT AND AUDIO QUALITYCONS:SOFT SCRATCHABLE SCREEN.That's why I'm giving this recorder 4 stars. It excellent everywhere else but the screen. Its literally a soft piece of plastic that you can scratch with your fingernail.I laughed when I peeled the protector off and the thing had light scratches on it.That's the only area this company needs to add more value to their product. Add a proper glass screen. Not this soft screen I can scratch with my fingernail. But for my use its fine. I can live with it for the money I spent.Overall pleased.

Worth every penny!
Works as advertised. I’m glad I waited for this use case to become more affordable and less complicated. I converted 2hr video and uploaded it straight to YouTube from my thumb drive in 15-20 min.

Awesome Device for Digitizing Home Videos.
This device works great! Using it to digitize videos from an old Sony Hi8 video recorder. I added a 512gb thumb drive to hold all of our home videos. The quality is excellent.

Reliably digitized a pile of old VHS family videos
I just finished a 3 week stint of digitizing all of our old VHS, VHS-C, and Hi8 family videotapes. The Portta worked great!I did replace the RCA cable that came with the Portta because it wouldn't connect reliably to our old Hi8 camcorder, but I suspect that's more the ancient camcorder's problem rather than the Portta's. You may want to use a higher-quality RCA cable than the one that comes with the Portta.I read several one-star reviews of people complaining about stuttering video or corrupted files. I suspect these problems (which I didn't experience) have two causes: 1) a USB thumb drive that can't keep up with higher video rates, and 2) not waiting for the Portta to finish saying "Saving..." before removing the USB thumb drive. If you buy a high-speed USB thumb drive and follow the instructions, the Portta should work great for you.
